Font installation on RH 8.x

Hello,

I am having problems in GNOME on RH 8.x install to read tamil.

I believe the fonts are installed properly but under 
'gnome-control-center' --> 'fonts' I cannto see them.

I have tried setting $LANG, $LANGUAGE and $LC_ALL to 'ta' and to 
'ta.in_UTF-8' ...not to sure whether this is correct too.
