Umlauts in gnome2

Hello,

Some Applications of gnome2 don't understand the Umlauts, for example, 
gftp looks here like this:

So in the last line with the three Buttons there it should say:

'Alle auswählen' 'Alle abwählen'.

I think the upper left button should say: 'Überschreiben'.  I'm not 
sure with the other one.

Whats wrong here, and how could that be fixed?
