This is caused by some apps not calling gtk_set_locale (). It would be
helpful to help find out exactly which apps are still missing this. (Many
of them have been fixed).
Why was this problem not noticed earlier?
This problem first became apparent with glibc2.2, because this
transliterates messages from gettext() to US-ASCII if this is not called.
I was aware of this and was planning to fix up apps over the coming
months. The release of a Certain linux distribution shipping with 2.2
whilst still in prerelease took us by suprise, so...
Please don't blame the Gnome project for this...
