Well, the macros/ directory is really ancient history, so probably isn't
the best example to consider here.
The other examples mentioned previously included code that is only used
in ~ two modules where either maintainer is likely to want to fix bugs
as they find them (e.g. libbackground in nautilus/gnome-control-center,
libgswitchit in gnome-control-center/gnome-applets, etc).
