Yay.
Minutes of the GNOME 2.0 Release Team Meeting - 2002/04/26
==========================================================
Present Regrets/Missing
======= ===============
John Fleck Calun Benson
Karl Gaffney Jamin Gray
Jody Goldberg Kjarten Maraas
Telsa Gwynne Michael Meeks
Greg Leblanc Seth Nickell
Sander Vesik
Luis Villa
Jeff Waugh
Actions:
=======
DONE: Greg to sort out access to gnome.org for Dermot.
DONE: Jody and John to chat about docs co-ordination, and talk to Dan
Mueth about it.
DONE: Get updated schedule onto dotplan pronto.
DONE: Inform mailing lists (desktop, hackers, docs, and i18n) of
changed schedule. Kjarten will take gnome-i18n.
PENDING: Add a link to Havoc's gconf documentation page on dotplan.
PENDING: John to look at what would be involved to get API docs registering
themselves with Scrollkeeper; and also to bring up gtk-doc
changes on gtk-doc (?) list.
NEW: Jody to look at a gnome-docs package which will include all the
relevant docs/stuff. See discussion.
NEW: Luis to talk to Heath Harrelson (?) about covering for him
NEW: Sander to write up details of integrating Sun documentation
NEW: Telsa/Jamin to collate the sort of changelog that Jamin posted
this time round so that it can be folded into release notes.
Decision and discussions
========================
* Docs build woes: Jody is looking at a package which would contain
all the doc-tools needed to build gnome. Possibly will include
DTDs and stylesheets, but there are prons (fewer bugs reported
in yelp etc if we do this) annd cons (overwriting XML catalog
files is a very big deal).
* Luis will be away for the next ten days -- apologies in advance.
* The lack of viewports in sawfish is annoying either a lot of people
or a few very vocal people. John Harper has posted a workaround
to one of the lists for people who are happy editing config files:
need to dig this out (probably on sawfish-list?) for people.
Greg pointed out between meeting and these minutes that it is on
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2002-April/msg00423.html
* Schedule: Much discussion. Even with the schedule slip, we still
have many many bugs. There is a discussion going on on
gnome-hackers currently about this: do owe go for quality
or "just ship it on date we say"? Quality. Latest (sigh)
plan: start the three-week beta4 cycle from yesterday; slip
in another three-week cycle in of beta5. RC1 on the 7th June.
Two weeks then: because RC1 really should be releaseable.
Beta5 (RC-0?) packages due 13th, to release on 17th May,
RC-1 packages due June 3rd to release on the 7th June;
and then in theory not all the packages should not need
changing and we should be able to reuse the vast majority
of tarballs in the release (otherwise we are at risk of
brown paper bags). Might be worth tagging CVS modules at
this stage rather than at 2.0 stage so that changes can
be tracked. Anyway, because we really should need very
few changes at this stage, it will be a two-week cycle.
