I'm no icon expert, but icons like this (totally redesigned by somebody
like Tigert of course) could work, without involving any special
alphabet nor digit, so totally respecting the icons designer guidelines.

PS: for those of you who find it inconvenient to see the attached png,
it's a ramp-up with an arrow underneath for the "sort in ascending
order" concept.
