Minutes of the GNOME 2.0 Release Team Meeting - 2002-08-02

  DONE: Luis to nag Jeff to summarise summit stuff.
  => Luis did this.

  DONE: Luis to mail desktop-devel-list and gnome-hackers his
        bug summary for the week.
  => Done before I'd even sent the minutes out for last week.

  PENDING: Telsa to find/write a "CVS branches" doc for people to fix and
           we can put it on dotplan for people unsure about branches.
  => Telsa has cobbled one together: just needs putting somewhere. 

  PENDING: Jeff to summarise summit stuff relevant to release team by
  Monday on mailing list.
  => Not done.

  PENDING: All release team members to mail their thoughts on release
           process. What worked, what didn't, what needs fixing.
  => We were all still waiting for Jeff's run-down of summit stuff.

  PENDING: In that email, include what range of hours forward or back
           you can comfortably move for conference calls.
  => Got the list, now only remains to figure out time.

  NEW: Luis to post proposed 2.1 schedule to desktop-devel-list and
  gnome-hackers.

  NEW: Luis to respond to foundation-list thing about "org chart"
  
  NEW: someone (?) to sort out possible phone times.

  NEW: Telsa to start pulling together lists of what we are missing
  and poking people to provide the info.
  
Decisions and discussions
=========================

  * Changes in release team make-up
  This was a larger call than usual. Several of the release team
  are stepping down from the general business, although remaining as
  contacts for their general areas. We have new blood, too. This
  meeting was also in part a hand-over. 

  * Team now consists of these people (irc nicks in brackets)
  Admin: Karl Gaffney (karl)
         Telsa Gwynne (telsa) (may be going in a month)
         Luis Villa (louie and various lu|MTG, lu|otherexcuses permutations)
         Jeff Waugh (jdub)
    
  Tech:  Frederic Crozat (fcrozat)
         Glynn Foster (Gman)
         Jody Goldberg (Jody)
         Mikael Hallendal (hallski)

  John Fleck, Seth Nickell, Kjartan Maraas (any others?) are going to
  keep playing co-ordination roles, but are released from Friday night
  phone call scheduling hell. Remaining team deeply grateful to 
  departing ones: many thanks. 

  * 2.0.0 debrief
  Thoughts from the new gang: 
    Positives: weekly snapshots, good product in the end. 
    Negatives: slippage, multiple freeze/unfreeze of strings, not enough
    "Here is what we're aiming for" and proactiveness. 

  * Plan for 2.1/2.2
  Luis sent a proposal schedule for discussion in earlier.
  We like it. Blessed, subject to nothing coming up when he sends it
  to desktop-devel-list for comments. 
  We would like a finalised todo list for the modules in advance
  so we have more of an idea of "what's left to do".

  * Plan for 2.0.x
  There shouldn't be much work involved in co-ordinating this, so
  we'll be doing this too. Current timetable is posted on 
  http://lists.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2002-July/msg00060.html

  * Phone call timing. Friday, 1700 GMT (which is 1300 in EST-land, 
  1800 in .uk and .ie summertime, 1900 in .fr and .se, and some 
  ungodly hour in Sydney which becomes worse when the clocks move.
  This has to change! We'd like to move the day, too.
