Incidentally, a couple of us are just back from CHI2002 (the ACM's
annual usability conference) where we ran a one-day workshop (more of a
discussion, in our case) on the topic of 'doing usability in open source
software'. We also had a follow-up meeting later in the conference to
talk about it some more :)
Hopefully I'll be able to write up a report on this and post it to the
usual places in the next week or two.
