Hi there,
Some months ago there was this discussion on how to make gettext more helpful
to translators, e.g.
> msgid "|noun|file"
> msgid "|verb|file"
See http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2001-April/msg00058.html and
thread.
Has anything happened on this topic since? I found some earlier submitted
patches that serve exactly that purpose, namely
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-devel-list/2000-December/msg00047.html
by Zbigniew Chyla. It seems like that code didn't make it into CVS anywhere
is well -- is that correct?
I wanted to use the mentioned feature for the translation of GnuCash. It
didn't sound too difficult: the Q_() macro itself could easily be provided by
our own backend structure. However, everytime we have a message as e.g. menu
item, we put this message in the N_() macro, which means that it isn't passed
through gettext until display time (I think). More importantly, it means that
this gettext call is *not* inside our GnuCash source code anymore!
Essentially it's impossible for us to code the Q_() feature by ourselves
:-))))
Is there a consensus on how to do this? I.e., did you agree on a message
syntax? If yes, what's missing? And where should the code go? And who is
going to commit it into CVS?
