Although, adding code that made clicking on the evolution directory start
evolution might not be a bad idea if people do use ~ as the
desktop.  Don't know about other special directories.

Maybe it would be useful to have a GConf key that gave the desktop
directory.  Even if there was no visible configuration dialog for it,
people like Tigert could use it to change it to ~ without having to worry
if there are any problems with the symlink.  The Ximian packages could
simply ship a GConf defaults file with their package to change the default
location, rather than changing it in the source.
