While some have said that the 'xalf' program that KDE2 is using is not
enough, I think it'd definitely be better than the nothing that is there
now. I know the author of xalf has asked before for some changes to go
into gnome-libs, but it looked to me like he was completely ignored. I'd
love to see xalf be integrated into gnome-libs, at least until someone
can come up with something better.
