Not necessarily. Think of a word processor...
* M$ Word
* RTF
* Plain ASCII
* Formatted ASCII
* HTML
* Native format
* PS / PDF
etc. :) Of course, the best thing Gimp did in this realm was the
"By Extension" option. It rocks! :) (That and supporting .gz internally)
