I don't know of any research that studied the advantages of
scrollbar positioning. Is this an opinion or can you back it
up?
Athena's scrollbars were pretty good -- but ugly. It
could be that asthetics matter more than functionality in
today's flashy demo marketing world. Don't Apple and IBM
GUI standards pre-date Motif too? (But didn't Motif inherit
a lot from HP's widget kit? Does that post-date the GUI
standards?)
