you are right in so far as the keyboard layout makes this kind of "natural".

again, I guess this is a matter of keyboard layout (can't of any other
reason to associate z with undo). however, there we hit the first oversight:
on my (german) keyboard, y and z are the other way around than on us
keyboards, so ctrl-z is actually a pretty awful combination.

I guess so. but in any case, there have to be somewhat useable default
