I've had nothing but troubles attempting to go to 15.04. With each update of Ubuntu I fight different problems with compiz and gnome stuff like gnome-panel. Indeed this is "flashback" not current and I hate Unity. Not looking forward to everything breaking again. I should resurrect my laptop and update it to 15.04 first I guess. The Ubuntu I'm running at work (which is in a VM on top of Windows) is also at 14.10. When I've updated to 15.04 in the past I would get a system I couldn't log into. I'd put my username and password in and it would attempt to login but then put me right back to the login screen. I don't have time to fight such battles when my client wants me to be dedicating my time to them.

Media keys (Play/Pause/etc keys) works for me on Ubuntu 15.10, I have no idea about 14.10... Maybe try to upgrade to 15.04? Also maybe Dmitry knows more about this...

I hope that I will make 3.18 release for gnome-flashback, but we still need to make input source switching keybindings to do actual input source switching - hopefully with popup window as there will be no status icon for input sources. In short input sources will be implemented only partially.

P.S. Did you test patches in 754956 and 753931? If they work we will need to forward these patches to right modules...
