And? None of patches contained info about patch author.
Then _you_ do the research.
From commit message it is clear that I am NOT author. When doing
release you can write correct author/authors in NEWS file. See bug:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513347
So, which of these patches is it ? Was it changed by the Debian
maintainers in any way before you imported it ? _Your_ job to find that out.
Users cares about fixed bugs not what names are in author column.
You freaking just don't get it.
The *only* reason we, the GNOME project, can even release software under
a free software license without every author signing a CLA, is that we
make damn sure that we only use code from authors that have agreed to
the license in question.
That means:
- Proper tracking of authorship, *always* !
- No relicensing of existing code/documentation/etc. without *every*
author's consent !
- Be anally exact about history, so we can track authors down, and
possibly prove the above in court.
- Writing *clear* commit messages, with links to bug trackers etc., so
that we can figure out what inspired a particular solution, if it ever
becomes necessary.
If we don't do that, you might be sued, I might be sued, or the Gnome
Foundation might be sued.
Delivering any bugfix or feature, now matter how cool or urgent, to our
users, *always* is second to the above due diligence, in how our
software is produced.
If you know how to fix that than please go ahead and set correct author.
Again more work for me, because you are too lazy to do it correctly when
importing the patch into git ? No thanks.
Cheers
Philipp
