Thanks for the videos. Do you have the same issue with other menus?
I.e. indicators, or menu bars in Gtk+ 3 apps?
If no, that would mean that we execute some code while user hovers on
the menu items.
P.S. I don't see this issue on my system.

3.4 is a very old release and no longer supported, do you have the
same issue with 3.8 (available in Ubuntu 14.04 and Debian unstable)?
It's a bit faster, but still very slow, I'd say "5 times slower than in
10.04".
Videos (taken 10 days ago, I did much testing before reporting it):
14.04, slow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foA24IRhQA8
12.04, very slow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEoe2LlrY-I
10.04, fast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZGW2eJEHvY
8.04, fast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivvirQhBLgw
I do think that there are specific regressions that need to be optimized,
and I'm willing to test in various hardware, if some developer is interested
in pinpointing this.
