Gnome documentation comments

I have read the topics of the Gnome Desktop (2.30.2) capabilities. 
One topic I miss: the steps that have to be taken to restore the Gnome
Desktop bottom edge panel to the state where it was in when Ubuntu was
installed.

For some reason the icons of minimized programs are not visible anymore
and I do not know how to return to the ´factory state´.

I use Ubuntu 10.04.02
