Screen adjustment

I am new to this amazing system.....WOW just left Microsoft.
Nervous as hell, but pressing on.
I have a difficulty. my computer screen and the alignment of Gnome is out.
it seems to be about 1 cm to the left, so I cannot read the first bit of info.
How can I adjust this to aligh with my computer screen????
Please help.
