#define for docbook text?

Hi.

some local members of gnome.or.kr are willing to translate gnome-user-docs/gnome2-user-guide.
and I've found that it's muchly tired to wrap a proper noun with tag pair.

is there some #define-similar substitution?
e.g. METACITY_APPLICATION for <application>Metacity</application>
