This error may not mean much:

Configuring...
rm -f Makefile
./autogen.sh --prefix=/gnome/head/INSTALL
autoheader: error: AC_CONFIG_HEADERS not found in configure.in

Its' probably also not surprising the the docs fall apart:

for pango we have:

and then it croaks:

Build failed on gtk+



but this time it came much further (and I might even be able to fix this)
