One other convention



One other convention that GNOME documentation (and the software too)
should follow is, *no GIFs*.

GIF format is patented, and using it is risky.  Even web sites that
have GIFs on them have been threatened with lawsuits.  Free software
available in the US cannot make real compressed GIFs, and we don't
want to distribute documentation in formats that free software can't
generate.  Because of this, the GNU Project policy is never to use
GIFs--not in software packages, or manuals, or web sites.
