Questions from Kevin about GNOME UG.

Hi Kevin,

Answers to your questions about the GNOME User Guide:

> Where's the source?

As this manual is currently a work-in-progress, we didn't think that source
files would be so useful. There is still a lot of development needed on the book
as a whole. Also, the license situation has to be finalized. We want to release
the User Guide under the GFDL, so once that is finalized we will be able to
release source files.

> Did they use the DocBook DTD?

No - but we did use the Solbook 2.2 DTD which is a customized Sun DTD that is
based on the same tags as DocBook 3.1. The Solbook sgml coding is very close to
DocBook sgml coding, and we can migrate.

> Did they follow the GNOME Style Guide?

Yes - we applied the GNOME Style Guide rigorously.

> Will the SGML (or XML) files be available to the general public?

That's the plan. When we put the source files back to the community, we will use
XML. We want to make the material as usable as possible for the community. We
need to know if there are some specific things that we need to put into the
sources to make them easily usable. Like I said above, the release of the
sources depends on finalization of the license situation. With a bit of luck the
license issue will be sorted out in the next few weeks.
