I have a fresh 6.1 installation, and brought up my sound properties
capplet, and had a couple of curiosities:
1. Can it play .mp3 files when you hit a given key?
2. Which mixer feature could lower it or turn it off?
So I clicked the "help" button and got a help page in Netscape, which
was nice, but it did not answer either of my questions, which I think
are both reasonable.
I would suggest that the control-center maintainer mention those two
issues.
I then played around, and discovered that (1) you can't play an MP3.
This would be a nice feature. (2) the relevant gmix slider is "Pcm",
which is the same one that gets used to play MP3s (I'm use XMMS and
ESD). This seems like a shame, since I would like to listen to music
louder and have the system sound events be soft.
