Thank you, Alex and Dave. I really missed your opinion on this subject.

Since metadata is not a solution, maybe this one should be optional.
I have one more suggestion for a solution: When the regex match and the
content differs, the Open With menu could show available applications
for both file types.
I also have a question: The "Open with another application" dialog
currently (as in 2.4.x), when you click "Modify..." for an app, has an
option 'Use as default for "myportfolio.html" only'. How does this work?
Could we use this for permantently storing the option used in the
approach mentioned in the above paragraph?
