gnotepad

I have an annoying problem with gnotepad.   I should like to set it as my
default editor but, when I open the "Control Center" window and click on the
"Gnome editor" box gnp does not appear in the list of avaliable editors.
This is despite the fact that gnp is in /usr/bin and gnotepad works
perfectly well when specified as the editor to use when opening a text file.

If anyone can tell me the solution to this problem I shall be very grateful.
