Ok - this is starting to make some sense. By default, ORBit is using
sockets, but this still does not explain why the application won't run
remotely.
If the app is using sockets, it will therefore try and spawn a CORBA
server on the remote machine. It should just work in theory, where all
things gnome (CORBA, etc) runs on the remote machine, which the X
display runs on the local one. This however is broken.
I notice in the truss I posted that gnome-name-service tries to open the
XAUTHORITY file - why does it do this?
