Try running "ldd $prefix/lib/libimlib-png.so" (I think that is the file
name), and checking if it is linking correctly with libpng.  If not, make
sure that libtool version is >= 1.2d.  If not, remove all the *.la files
in imlib's source tree and libtoolize --force (assuming you have libtool
>= 1.2d installed) and start over.
