Re: GNOME 3 - Help

Good morning wonderful people,

I hope you are well and wish you all a Happy New Year for 2019.

I use MobaXterm v10.9 to access my Test Linux RHEL 7.3 server using ssh. Once I have logged on to the server I can issue echo $DISPLAY which returns "localhost:13.0". I can issue xeyes which creates another small window showing two eyes. What I would really like to do is to launch gnome desktop on my Test server. When I issue gnome-session, nothing happen the systems just seems to hang. If I issue gnome-shell the I get a core dump and message saying extension DPMS is missing.

I can  use ssh on my local computer  to access my TEST Linux RHEL 7.3 and an  another Test Server running RHEL 5 as:

SSH –X myuserid@Test sever IP address after which xeyes work for both RHEL 7.3 and RHEL 5. When issues gnome-session for RHEL 5  I get the Gnome GUI I am expecting HOWEVER  with RHEL 7.3  the session just hangs. I have attached a picture(see below) that may assist you in answering my query. I have  also  stopped and started the gdm service but this has made a no difference.

I am relatively new to Linux and MobaXterm but I have very good knowledge of the Mainframe including Assembler programming. Any help you can provide will be much, much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

God bless.
