OOo is quite large. I was hoping for something smaller, with only
a few dependencies (like GTK+). I've also read recently that OOo
may depend on Java libs and runtime being installed (not sure about
the details on that though). Is there anything smaller and simpler
than OOo?

Also, I'm a bit new at this, and don't know what you
mean by "forms interface/designer". I've only used AppleWorks DB a little
bit, but so far I understand that you first set up the fields you want for
each item in the db, then fill up the database, and then you can view
the items in a number of different formats (AppleWorks calls them "layouts").

Hmm... Python would probably work here too... If it comes to it, I may
have a look at PyGTK. I've never used Glade, but my guess is that what
I'm looking for is simple enough that I wouldn't need a fancy RAD tool
like Glade to slap it together. :)

Someone's gotta' have already put something together for this already, no?
It seems like a pretty common and needed sort of thing... I'd hate to go and
reinvent the wheel if I don't have to.
