We're starting now to implement a sort of XML queries to be used instead of
SQL when the underlying data source is not a SQL database. This will allow
access to CSV, XML, LDAP,...

I DO like GNOME programming a lot. I think it's very well done and documented.
But, yes I agree with you in that you need an encyclopedia, but have you tried
to download the docs in developer.gnome.org and have them on your system? or
Havoc's book?

That's a point where gnome-db can't help you. We will be moving to non-GNOME
dependant providers and client lib as soon as OAF (the new GNOME Object
Activation Framework, which is X-independant) is released. But, for the
widgets, including gnome-db-report, you'll need the GUI. But it could also be
possible to write a report engine in the low-level.
