Wayland in Continuous

Using Wayland (qxl video in Boxes) I'm experiencing the flicker described here:

For a while, the GNOME on Xorg session was an option, but now login attempts just return to the login screen.

Switching the vm to vga video stops the flicker, but I don't get a cursor.
