Cannot initialise gnome-contacts-3.10.2

Using gnome-contacts-3.10.2 with folks-0.9.5 and telepathy-glib-0.23.x compiled from source with gnome-3.10.x

When I start gnome-contacts it asks which contacts I'd like to use, choosing "local" brings up the errors 
below - any idea why?
