Moveable components example?

Is there an example of how to have components in an app (in a canvas 
like object in particular I guess) be moveable and resizable?  I'm 
thinking something along the lines of EOG in Gnumeric, where the picture 
can be positioned and resized anywhere.

Gnumeric is quite big.  I've played with gshell but all components are 
essentially UI objects which obviously cannot be resized or moved by the 
user.  But it is simple. :)  I'm looking for something in between.


As a side note, how does one load a picture into EOG in gshell?  In 
Gnumeric, EOG has an Open menu command.  In gshell, EOG does not.
