I think for now it's not worth changing ( on reflection ) it can be
worked around by opening the basename as a Bonobo/Storage and then
creating the file - I think; and perhaps that's more elegant in the long
term anyway.
Thanks for looking at it though; the solution seems good if it were not
for the freeze,
