Stream and Persist* purpose

Hi

What is the purpose of Bonobo::Stream and Bonobo::Persist* ? Are they 
suposed to be used in something like a filemanager or an ftp client ?

I want to provide crypto services via corba, with a load/save interface for
access to cyphered files. Should i inherit Bonobo::Stream and implement
it's methods ? Or is this a bad design ?
