Sure, it's very possible using i2c. I've used i2c quite a lot in my
last job. The tricky bit is wiring it into Xorg, as i2c is pretty slow
(at least in non-high speed mode) and X can't spawn extra threads.
I also don't think you need to spend that much money if you want to be
able to program the display LUT. I'm pretty sure I can do it on my
£200 LG screen.
