Top Panel and bottom panel went missing

Hi Everybody,

I have been using CentOS 5.0. Arch :i686
I'm using Gnome 2.16.0 which came along with my CentOS
distribution.
I installed VLC Media Player 0.8.6c. After that I just added a new envt
variable "CC=gcc" and called the "source" command  in bash.
I restarted the computer for the envt variables to take effect.

When I logged in both the panels were gone.
I don't know how to get them back.
Can anyone help me here?
