GDM Crash Server Authorization Directory

GDM crashes and it pops up the following message
repeatedly in continuous intervals:
(Red Hat Linux release: 4.2.0-72 X-server version 11)
Server Authorization directory (daemon/ServerAuthDir)
is set to /var/gdm but this does not exist. Please
correct gdm configuration /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf and
restart gdm.
pls help
