Re: jhbuild installation problem

You need to install harfbuzz using jhbuild. Use: jhbuild build --no-deps harfbuzz.
Also, most common solution of all the package-dependency problem is to install it using jhbuild.

Hi, thanks for your help. I tried installing gnome-boxes with no-deps. And this is the error output I have stumbled upon:

checking for HARFBUZZ... yes
checking for FONTCONFIG... yes
checking for FREETYPE... no
no
checking for CoreText availability... no
checking for CAIRO... no
no
configure: error: *** Could not enable any backends.
*** Must have at least one backend to build Pango.
*** Error during phase configure of pango: ########## Error running ./autogen.sh --prefix /home/nikhilsid/work/2013/gsoc/opt/gnome --libdir '/home/nikhilsid/work/2013/gsoc/opt/gnome/lib'  --disable-static --disable-gtk-doc  *** [12/46]

I have installed libfreetype6, libfreetype6-dev, libcairo*

It seems like a common problem, but I coudn't find a working solution on the net.

Hi Nikhil,
Welcome to Gnome-boxes community.
I've also built gnome-boxes on Ubuntu 12.04. That was one heck of a learning experience!
First for all, if you main aim is to build gnome-boxes, I would suggest you to use this command instead: " jhbuild build --no-deps gnome-boxes"
I'd suggest you to try this out first, and then tell us if there are any more errors/warning that you face.
Happy Hacking :-)

Hi,
I am trying to install jhbuild, so that I can compile and run Gnome Boxes over it. But I am facing some problems:
on the execution of command: jhbuild build
Following is the output:

Required packages:
System installed packages which are too old:
    libnl (libnl-3.0.pc, required=3.2.7, installed=3.2.3)
  No matching system package installed:
    smbclient (smbclient.pc)
    libicu (icu-i18n.pc, required=4)
jhbuild build: Required system dependencies not installed. Install using the command 'jhbuild sysdeps --install' or to ignore system dependencies use command-line option --nodeps

Now,
1. for libnl (libnl-3.0.pc, required=3.2.7, installed=3.2.3),
I tried this command 'sudo apt-get instal libnl-dev', but that caused a breakage in several package dependencies. Thus, I had to revert it back

2. for smbclient (smbclient.pc),
I tried 'sudo apt-get install smbclient', and it worked, but still jhbuild is showing this error.

3. for libicu (icu-i18n.pc, required=4)
I installed several packages like libicu-dev, icu-doc, libicu48, libicu48-dbg. But the error still persists.

OS: Ubuntu 12.04
Desktop Environment: Gnome 3.4.2.1

I would be very greatful, if someone helped me intall this, as I need to get it done for applying in GSoC 2013.

Also, there was a minor problem with jhbuild configuration. I have filed it as a bug, with this link: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=698456
