After six months of development the first release of the new 2.16 stable
series has been released.

Description
===========

gedit is the official text editor of the GNOME desktop environment.

While aiming at simplicity and ease of use, gedit is a powerful general
purpose text editor.

Among others, it features full UTF-8 support, syntax highlighting and a
powerful plugin system.
