Re: future of gnome

Canonical/Ubuntu is still using GNOME technologies and still part of the GNOME community. They have decided to make Unity the default desktop on Ubuntu as an alternative to GNOME Shell. They will continue to use/ship a lot of other GNOME technologies and GNOME apps.

According to them, they will continue to contribute to GNOME (patches and financially) at at least the same level.

MeeGo is also using a lot of GNOME technologies, just not focusing on GTK+, but they use a lot of other technologies, especially the middleware and communications pieces. They also gave us a $50,000 grant to enable and promote GTK+ apps on MeeGo. We just put out a call for proposals for how to use that money and would welcome any applications.
