Making a playlist for mplayer

My sincere thanks to the chap who responded to my question about
creating playlists. I am not sure exactly how to carry out their
instructions about creating the ".m3u" they described. Now how does this
work? I am unsure as to the procedure. Is this gentleman suggesting that
one has to concatonate files into a single file or what?
