Re: Firefox problems

Hi Alastair:

Screen reader access to any slightly complex page via Firefox 1.5 is
very dicey. The caret navigation model is very very basic and is of use
to people with physical impairments to allow for cut/paste operations.
I've personally found the navigation model to be a challenge, however,
primarily due to the erratic nature of how the caret sometimes jumps all
over the place and how it sometimes seemingly refuses to let you scroll.

Some work has been done with Firefox 2.0 to improve the situation, but
most of the improvements to Firefox accessibility are being done for
Firefox 3.0 via joint collaboration between Sun and IBM. Firefox 3.0 is
due to be done Q1 of 2007. Intermediate builds will always be available
between now and then, giving screen reader developers and end users the
chance to improve usability and flush out as many bugs as possible.

Hope this helps,

Will
