Gnopernicus and Gnome

I can now use gnopernicus successfully! Excellent, although a bit sluggish on this p500 box. I am having another strange problem
though which I'm wondering if anyone has seen. I can use the system for about ten minutes or so, then things just lock up - speech
goes away, and there is no error message from srcore, which I have running in a pty via ssh. I do get the following from srcore
however:

gnopernicus-Message: speech initialization succeded

(srcore:2829): gnopernicus-CRITICAL **: file SRObject.c: line 3555 (sro_image_get_description): assertion `sro_is_image (obj,

[Here's where speech dies with no further output from srcore.]

I control+c out of srcore, kill the dectalk driver with "killall -KILL dectalk-synthesis-driver" and restart srcore with
"srcore --display=':0'" and I'm back running again.

Anyone seen this behavior before? Why does dectalk keep hanging?

When it hangs like this and I run test-speech, I get nothing when I choose the dectalk driver.
