gnpernicus - no speech

Hello,
I'm trying to run gnopernicus with freetts.  When I startx I hear the first
part of the welcome message, then speech cuts out.

In my .xinitrc I am loading gnopernicus gnome-terminal and gnome-session.

I'm attaching the output from startx.
