Am I correct in assuming that the BrlTTY tables are mapped to ISO 8859-1?
If so, what is Gnopernicus producing when it sends output to BrlTTY?

I agree that a general architecture for braille character output is
desirable.

If Gnopernicus is sending Unicode (most likely UTF8) encoding, this could
be the source of the mismatch with BrlTTY.
