nist sphere files in /tmp

I normally ignore my /tmp directory, but after playing with
gnome2 with gnopernicus and festival (unsuccessfully) for a
while, I recently examined /tmp and found several dozen files
there with names like this: "est_08136_00006_aud_00006"
They are described as "nist sphere files".

Are these remnants of my gnome/gnopernicus efforts? Does anyone
recognize them?
