The package containing the code can be downloaded from
    http://ocemp.sourceforge.net/pre/papi.tar.gz

for those interested in it (I am not sure, whether sending binary
contents to this list is okay).

The bridging code can be found under 'papi/papi'.
A small test application is located directly in the top source directory
as 'test.py'.

The C code should be mostly platform compatible and conform to the C99
standard (tested using GCC 3.4.2 on FreeBSD). Other platforms were not
tested (yet).

The whole package should build cleanly with at least Python 2.3.
