This sounds like: gnome-terminal used to use libzvt which Marc Mulcahy made accessible. gnome-terminal has switched to use vte.
Nalin, the maintainer of vte, has done a lot of work to make vte accessible.
If there are any accessibility problems with gnome-terminal using vte, please log bugs against vte and put the accessibility keyword on them so that we will see them.
